Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
